TRACING – HERITAGE AND TRANSMISSION OF MODERN DANCE

This film is documenting another initiativ for the Europe-wide networking of the "Practice and Mediation of Modern Dance".

In the summer of 2022 a dozen representatives of the practice of modern dance from Finland and Germany met on the archipelago island of Keistiö (Southwest Finland) for a transnational symposium to impart "Finding Traces - Being Traces" into a moving practice of mediation, performance and reflection.

This filmic summary captures - in the truest sense of the word - the moving conversations and stories of the participants as well as the unique environment and landscape of the archipelago island and its open-minded inhabitants.

The initiator, organizer and host Susanne Montag-Wärnå tells in conclusive interview passages how she came up with the idea of making modern dance transnationally visible and above all alive in the middle of the Finnish Archipelago.

The production of the film on location and the subsequent post-processing were made possible by grants from the funding program KULTUR.GEMEINSCHAFTEN of the Cultural Foundation of the German States within the framework of the special program NEUSTART KULTUR.
